Award Winning??

We met with OnMedia (cable company) today to talk about creating a new television commercial.  Our current commercial, which can be found at http://www.riverviewcenter.org, has been running for more than 6 months.  It’s time for a new message.  I think we all went into the meeting with a list of various concepts, not sure if any was going to hit the mark.  Fortunately, I left the meeting feeling like something truly great was conceived.

It’s really exciting to sit at a conference table with like minded people, brainstorming about a new concept that will help bring additional awareness to our work.  The objective we started from was that we wanted to broaden the understanding of Riverview Center services for the community while focusing on change.  We want to illustrate for the viewer that the change Riverview is a part of not only effects our individual clients but has a ripple effect throughout the community.

Visualize this: The commercial opens with a view of a neutral community setting (grocery store, movie theatre, restaurant, etc.)  We are going to have 4 different commercials that open with 4 different settings but all have the same concept embedded within.  The commercial opens in a grocery store with a view of a number of people going about their business…mom and son in the checkout line, the cashier, a few people in the background doing their shopping and maybe even a shelf stocker for good measure.  Slowly, the camera zooms into one specific person in the group, closing in on his face.  Let’s say it’s the guy shopping in the background.  The camera slowly pulls back from the person’s face to reveal that he is now in an audience full of men receiving a presentation on men’s role in violence prevention and how boys need men to be role models to teach them how to be men that does not involve degrading girls and women.  The camera zooms back in on the man and the sports logo on his shirt and then pulls back out to reveal that he is now on the baseball field surrounded by the Little League team he coaches.  The man is sharing with these young boys the expectations he has for them this season, and that those expectations consist of respecting girls and women.

The concept is still rough, but I do think we are on to something really cool.   If you’ve ever watched the show “Scrubs,” you would be familiar with the zooming in and out of characters that I am referencing.  As mentioned before, we would have 4 different commercials focusing on a man’s role in violence prevention, counseling, advocacy, and bullying prevention.

Stay tuned for more.

  2. Thanks for the input Dawn. I am looking forward to getting this project started. The production company is working on a example of the concept so that we can preview before we begin shooting. I will keep you posted.
